Typing speed tips

How to type faster without turning every word into a mistake.

Fast typing is a mix of familiar finger movements, calm rhythm and accurate input. Use these practical steps with a short Monkey Typing practice routine.

Start typing practice

1. Learn one finger map.

Switching finger positions from word to word slows you down. Use the 10 finger typing map as a simple default. Keep your index fingers near F and J, and return to the home row after reaching for another key.

2. Reduce repeated errors before pushing speed.

If the same letters keep causing mistakes, pause and type the pattern more carefully. Accuracy is not separate from speed: fewer corrections make your real typing flow faster. Start with the easy or normal word set before using harder words.

3. Practice a repeatable 10-minute routine.

  1. Spend two minutes on an easy typing practice drill.
  2. Run one 30-second typing speed test.
  3. Repeat one more time, trying to improve accuracy instead of forcing WPM.
  4. Once a week, use the solo typing race as a focused speed challenge.

4. Make your setup boring and comfortable.

Keep the keyboard centered, your wrists neutral, and your shoulders relaxed. You should not need to reach or twist for common keys. Comfort makes it easier to repeat good movement patterns during longer typing sessions.
